Module B  Pre-clinical publication issues | Lecture

Prerequisite 

With help of online Module A sections if needed, participant sends test certificate with 60% correct answers and homework sent to local training organizer

At the end of module B the participant 

  • is sensitized to search strings made of relevant search components, Boolean operators, mesh terms to answer a precise question
  • is sensitized to search strings for animal and in vitro systematic reviews
  • connects search 3R information search strategies and reporting to FormA and research papers
  • connects emerging new modes of publication and the 3Rs, ie funding agency open access and open data policies, ARRIVES guidelines, post-reviewing

  • Literature search strategy awareness for informed model/strain selection for best translation
    • Books and e-books - Union catalog 
    • Narrative reviews and citing tools - Google scholar, Web of Science, Scopus  
    • Recall and precision with Pubmed, WoS, Scopus -  Search components
    • Full text search - Pubmed Central (PMC), publisher databases 
    • European and Swiss copyright reforms and Text Data Mining - consequences for strain selection
    • Literature reporting in FormA point 61

Module C  Animal Systematic Reviews | Short workshop
4h - 12 persons max - course notes

Prerequisite

With help of online Module A sections if needed, participant sends test Certificate with 60% correct answers and homework sent to local training organizer 

At the end of short Module C the participant:

  • efficiently builds Pubmed search strings for Animal Systematic Review (SR) with Pubmed as first step of pre-clinical meta-analyses.
    • find Mesh terms [mh] to be combined with free terms [tiab] in search strings with Pubmed
    • write complex search string with text word editor use and replace fonction for Pubmed search builder
    • uses SYRCLE search components (SC) for Animal Systematic Review with Pubmed
      • SC1 Intervention/Exposure 
      • SC2 Disease of interest/Health problem
      • SC3 Animal/Animal species/Population studied
  • updates Animal Systematic Review with Pubmed, WoS, Scopus, Google scholar subject and citing alerts
  • is aware about 3R information issues of Animal SR (risk of bias, meta-analyses, ARRIVES &TOP guidelines, open access)

Sequence

Practical exercises and group presentations alternates with online demos of search tool use and short lectures on issues of 3Rs and Open Science


Module C Animal Systematic Reviews | Long workshop

Sequence

2 hours lecture on Animal Systematic Reviews (SR) and Risk of Bias (RoB) assessment in connection with internal and external validity issues, followed by

  • Practice of Animal SR 
  • Reconstruction on poster by group participants of time line experiment on 2 pre-selected articles by trainers. 
  • Work on personal information need 
  • RoB assessment on pre-selected article by participant on its own research topic.
